The exam server can't connect to app.examqr.com

Exams run offline, but activation, the password recovery email and updates need the Internet. Allow HTTPS to app.examqr.com and downloads.examqr.com, or use the offline options.

ExamQR Exam runs exams on the local network without the Internet. It only contacts ExamQR to activate a license, to email a password recovery code, and to download updates (from app.examqr.com and downloads.examqr.com over HTTPS).

How you recognise it

  • On the sign-in screen, after asking for a recovery code by email: “Can't connect to app.examqr.com. Check your Internet connection and try again, or use the saved recovery code.”
  • In the License window: “Can't connect to the server. Check your Internet connection and try again (Internet is needed only for activation; exams run fully offline).” or “Could not connect to the server. Check your Internet connection and try again.”

Likely causes

  • The exam network has no Internet access (often on purpose).
  • A school firewall, web filter or proxy blocks these addresses, or the proxy requires a sign-in.
  • The computer's date and time are wrong, so secure connections fail.

Fix it

  1. On the server computer, open https://app.examqr.com in a browser. If it doesn't load, the problem is the network, not ExamQR.
  2. Ask the IT administrator to allow HTTPS (TCP port 443) from the server computer to app.examqr.com and downloads.examqr.com, without a proxy sign-in.
  3. Check the clock under System status on the dashboard and correct the computer's date, time and time zone.
  4. No Internet at all: activate with a license file (see ExamQR Exam license won't activate, or the .lic file won't import), and reset a forgotten password with the paper Recovery code you saved when the account was created.
  5. To update without Internet on the server, download the latest package from the Downloads page on another computer and install it on the server.

If it still doesn't work
