A candidate can't submit after losing the connection

Answers stay saved on the candidate computer. Reconnect and submit again, or export the submission file and import it on the server.

The ExamQR Exam candidate app saves every answer on the candidate computer as well as on the server. A network drop does not lose work, and a submission that can't reach the server can be carried over as a file.

How you recognise it

  • “Disconnected — retrying submission automatically (attempt 2). Your work is SAVED; do not turn off the computer. You can click 'Export submission file' to submit through the server.”
  • “Could not submit because the connection was lost for too long. Your work is still SAFE. Click 'Submit' to try again, or click 'Export submission file' to take the file to the server.”
  • “The server did not accept the answers made while disconnected because time ran out. Your work is still SAFE on this machine. Click 'Export submission file' and give the file to the proctor to import (BEFORE the session is stopped), or ask the proctor to add time and then click 'Submit'.”

Fix it

  1. Tell the candidate not to close the app or turn off the computer.
  2. Check the network cable or Wi-Fi of that computer and that the server is still running. The app reconnects by itself; then click Submit again.
  3. If it still can't submit, click Export submission file on the candidate computer and save the .stsub file to a USB drive.
  4. On the server, open the session and use Import offline submission (.stsub) to load the file. Do this before you stop the session.
  5. If the time ran out while the candidate was disconnected, you can also add time for that candidate on the server, then ask the candidate to click Submit.
  6. If the server says “The candidate is suspended. Lift the suspension first to import their work.”, lift the suspension first.

If it still doesn't work

Keep the .stsub file and report the problem with a photo of the message and the candidate number. Do not delete the exam on the server.
