How it works

  1. Upload your candidate list as Excel or CSV, or start from the sample file.

  2. Match the columns: name, candidate number, and the group or paper version to keep apart.

  3. Set out the rooms with their rows and seats per row. Click a seat in the preview to leave it empty.

  4. Print the seating plans, desk labels and attendance registers, or download them as PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Is the seating plan generator free?
Yes, with no account. You can seat up to 200 candidates at a time. Printed pages carry a small "Made with ExamQR" line.
How does it keep groups apart?
Match a column to "Group or paper version", such as the class, the paper version or the subject. Candidates of the same group are not seated side by side or one behind the other, and you can add diagonals too. When one group is more than about half of a room, some of its candidates have to sit together: the tool says so and outlines those seats in red.
What file can I use?
An Excel file (.xlsx or .xls) or a CSV file, with the column names in the first row and one candidate per row. The sample file shows the columns.
Can I leave some seats empty?
Yes. Click any seat in the preview to leave it empty, for a broken desk, an aisle or the invigilator's desk, and click it again to use it. The plan is made again at once.
Is my list stored?
No. The file is read to show its columns and is not saved. The list stays in your browser; printing sends only the names and seats needed for the pages.
Can I run the exam itself in ExamQR?
Yes. "Excel for ExamQR" downloads the list in the layout ExamQR imports, with each candidate's room and seat number. Candidates can then sit the exam on computers in those rooms with the ExamQR offline exam server, or online.
