Exported tests and printing: file in use, images out of place, layout

The ExamQR desktop app writes shuffled tests and answer keys as Word files. Close open Word files before generating, keep images inline, and adjust the layout templates.

The ExamQR desktop app saves each shuffled test and its answer key as Word (.docx) files in the output folder you choose. The layout comes from Word templates you can edit.

How you recognise it

  • “Couldn't generate the tests because a file is open (usually in Word). Close all open Word files in the output folder, then click "Back" and generate again.”
  • Images move away from their question, or are cut at the page edge.
  • The heading, logo, spacing or paper size of the printed test is not what you want.

Fix it

  1. Close every Word file from the output folder, then click Back and generate again.
  2. In the source Word file, set each image to In Line with Text, save, and generate again.
  3. To change the heading, school name or logo, use Edit exam template and Edit answer-key template under Layout templates (Word). Edit the template in Word, save it, and generate again.
  4. In Shuffle test, adjust Line height, Question spacing (cm) and Answer spacing (cm).
  5. Need PDF? Open the Word file in Microsoft Word and choose File, Save As, PDF.
  6. Print from Microsoft Word, and check that Layout, Size matches the paper in the printer (A4 or Letter). Other word processors can shift equations and layout.

Reports printed by the ExamQR Exam server

  • “No printers found on the server. Install a printer, then click ↻.” Install the printer on the server computer, then refresh.
  • “The current license plan does not allow printing reports.” The Free plan doesn't print or export reports; a license adds them.
  • “Cannot build the print page (WebView is not responding).” See Blank test or "WebView2 Runtime" warning on Windows.

If it still doesn't work

Report the problem with the source Word file, one generated file and a photo of the printed page.
