"Windows protected your PC" when installing ExamQR

The ExamQR installers are not code-signed yet, so Windows SmartScreen may warn you. Check the file and choose More info, then Run anyway.

Windows SmartScreen warns about programs that are not code-signed or not yet widely downloaded. The ExamQR installers are not code-signed yet, so you may see this warning for the ExamQR desktop app and for ExamQR Exam.

How you recognise it

A blue window says “Windows protected your PC” when you open the installer, with only a Don't run button.

Fix it

  1. Download installers only from the Downloads page.
  2. Optional: check that the file is intact. In PowerShell, run Get-FileHash .\file-name.exe and compare the result with the SHA-256 shown on the Downloads page.
  3. In the SmartScreen window, click More info, then Run anyway.
  4. The installers install for the current user and don't need administrator rights. On computers managed by a school, a policy may still block unknown programs: ask your IT team to allow the installer.

If it still doesn't work
